St Hilda's College Boat Club

Est. 1894

The largest society at St Hilda's College, Oxford, SHCBC is both a competitively successful rowing club as well as a warm and welcoming community which is at the heart of many of our members' social lives.

If you are considering rowing during your time at St Hilda's then you can find out more information here.

Rowing

Each year we field multiple men's and women's boats for the three major regattas in the Oxford rowing calendar: Michaelmas Novice Regatta, Torpids, and Summer VIIIs. Most of our members have never rowed before joining SHCBC but, thanks to our excellent coaches and captains, quickly become proficient rowers. Some even going on to join the University Blues teams and row in the Oxford-Cambridge boat race. To find out more about rowing with us click here.

Socials

We hold a wide range of social events each term - these include informal post-training drinks, boat house parties, crew dates with other boat clubs, and formal dinners. Many of our members find that SHCBC forms a central part of their social lives whilst at university and that, thanks to the huge popularity of rowing across Oxford, getting involved is a great way to meet people from other courses, colleges, and years.

History

SHCBC was the first women's boat club in Oxford and has a long legacy of breaking new ground for women's rowing. It was an SHCBC member, H. G. Wanklyn, who founded the Oxford University Women's Boat Club in 1927, and the first full-women's boat to race in Summer VIIIs was also an SHCBC crew. Since 2008 we have also had a thriving men's side which sees just as much success as our women's side. To find out more about our history, click here.
